predators and near food sources. Some nests can be very large and heavy, such
as the bald eagle’s nest, which measures 13 feet deep, and 8.2 feet wide, and

many cultures and religions. The bald eagle is the national emblem of the
United States, and the Philippine eagle is the national bird of the
Philippines.
• Eagles are not actually bald. The word “bald” comes from the
Old English word “balde”, which means “white-headed”. The bald eagle has white
feathers on its head, neck, and tail.
