Mandawa
is a town, known for its fort and
havelis. The fort town of Mandawa is well connected with the other places in the region through a good network of roads. The City of Mandawa was made a thikana
in the mid-18th century by the Bhojraj Ji Kasubsub clan of Shekhawat
Rajputs. just 29 km from Jhunjhunu city in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan,
India. It is part of the Shekhawati region. Mandawa is located at 28.05°N
75.15°E.[2] It has an average elevation of 316 meters (1036 ft). The nearest
railway station is the JHUNJHUNU railway station.
The word "Mandawa" in English means "Arbor, Arbour" The Mandwa Fort was built by Newal Singh, the first descendant of the Shekhawati rulers. Mandawa is also famous for its beautiful havelis, a Shekhawati region trademark, also known as the world's largest open-air art gallery. It is located about 168 km from Jaipur. Thakur Nawal Singh, the Rajput ruler of Nawalgarh and Mandawa, built a fort in 1755 to protect this outspot and keep a check on the marauding bandits that once roamed freely in the region. The township that grew around the fort soon attracted a large community of traders, who settled here.
